CHIN’s Hostel: A Tranquil Retreat in Nature

Nestled in Xiangjian Village, Lin’an, Hangzhou, CHIN’s Hostel stands as a testament to tranquility amidst nature. Situated at the intersection of the historic Huihang Ancient Trail, the hostel draws inspiration from its surroundings, inviting visitors to connect with nature and foster new friendships.

Embracing Rural Charm

CHIN’s Hostel serves as a sanctuary in the mountainous countryside, blending seamlessly with its rustic surroundings. Neither extravagant nor simplistic, the hostel exudes warmth and character, with intricate details reflecting the essence of rural life. It embodies Atelier A’s commitment to practical design and respect for historical context, offering a serene escape from urban life.

Harmonizing Old and New

The project’s unique design stems from its origin as the lower concrete frame of a rural viewing platform. Atelier A skillfully integrated new functions while preserving the platform’s original structure, creating a multifunctional space for gatherings, activities, accommodations, and exhibitions. By following the site’s natural contours and adopting a “light intervention” approach, the architects minimized ecological disruption while infusing the space with a sense of organic harmony.

Seamless Integration

CHIN’s Hostel seamlessly integrates interior and exterior environments, fostering a sense of environmental awareness. Large-scale landscape windows flood the interior with natural light, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. A reconstructed viewing platform serves as a gateway to the hostel, guiding visitors along a forest trail and retaining wall adorned with rich walnut forests and distant mountain vistas.

Tranquil Living Spaces

Upon entering, guests are greeted by a curved retaining wall and steel ceiling, creating a welcoming gray space that sets the tone for the hostel’s serene atmosphere. The foyer doubles as an art display area, seamlessly connecting with the second-floor aisle. The open hall extends to a terrace and outdoor courtyard, providing a versatile space for gatherings and events. The second floor houses the living area, complete with accommodation and washing facilities, offering a comfortable retreat for guests.

CHIN’s Hostel embodies the perfect fusion of tradition and modernity, offering a peaceful retreat where visitors can reconnect with nature and forge lasting memories.
