Embracing Nature: Forest Refuge
Nestled on the fringes of the Pâture d’Haisne pond, at the threshold of the Mormal forest, the Forest Refuge stands as a beacon of hospitality. Situated in Locquignol village, Avesnois, this haven for tourists and adventurers draws inspiration from the rich cultural tapestry and medieval history of the forest.
Harmonizing with the Landscape
Designed to seamlessly blend with its surroundings, the refuge follows the natural contours of the landscape, rising and curving in a graceful arc. Positioned along the path traversing the pasture, it serves as a visual marker, revealing the hidden beauty of the forested hills.
Providing Shelter
At its core, the intervention creates a covered hall, offering shelter to all who wander through the pasture. The rhythmic structure guides visitors from the parking area, framing breathtaking views of the distant pond and forest through its triangular porticoes.
Craftsmanship and Materials
The hall showcases bold craftsmanship and innovative use of materials. Exposed to the elements, the weather-resistant posts are crafted from solid larch, gradually aging to a stunning gray and pink patina over time. Elevated on screw piles and braced by strapping, they stand as testaments to both strength and elegance.
A Testament to Durability
Protected by a primary spruce frame and Landes pine boarding, the roof boasts split chestnut Cavaillon tiles, secured with brass nails. Renowned for its durability and expressive character, this exceptional material weathers gracefully, acquiring a unique patina that enhances its beauty over time.
