Bridging Interior and Exterior Brühl Solothurn School Complex
Enhancing Connectivity and Functionality
Situated in the western part of Solothurn, the Brühl Solothurn School Complex serves as an extension to an existing school facility. Designed by Kollektiv Marudo, the architectural concept seamlessly integrates interior and exterior spaces, fostering connectivity and functionality.
Embracing Outdoor Living
At the heart of the design are exterior staircases, enveloped by a protective arcade that encircles the entire building. This covered outdoor space serves multiple purposes, functioning as both an access point and a communal area for meetings and recreation. The circular staircases, with their entry and exit points at the same location, directly link the building entrances, promoting fluid movement and interaction.
Structural Flexibility and Modularity
The architectural framework is rooted in the principle of spatial flexibility, catering to the diverse needs of its users. Constructed primarily in concrete, the static framework adheres to a modular grid system, efficiently dividing and connecting the school rooms. A wooden lightweight construction complements the concrete skeleton, incorporating facade elements, cabinets, and interior doors, thereby enhancing the structural integrity while promoting a cohesive aesthetic.
A Canvas for Future Adaptation
By prioritizing simplicity and adaptability, the raw yet functional design of the school complex lays the foundation for future users to tailor the space according to their evolving needs. This emphasis on flexibility ensures that the building remains relevant and responsive to the demands of its occupants over time.
Conclusion
The Brühl Solothurn School Complex stands as a testament to innovative design principles that prioritize connectivity, functionality, and adaptability. By seamlessly bridging interior and exterior spaces and embracing modular construction techniques, Kollektiv Marudo has created a dynamic educational environment that fosters collaboration and creativity.
