Rediscovering the Edgeland House: A Masterpiece by Bercy Chen Studio

Bercy Chen Studio unveils the breathtaking Edgeland House, a stunning residence commissioned by a science fiction writer with a passion for the urban frontiers of abandoned industrial zones.

Drawing from History

Inspired by the rich history of human habitation in urban frontiers, Bercy Chen Studio looked to the past for inspiration in designing the Edgeland House. Drawing parallels to the pit houses used by Native Americans in North America, the design pays homage to one of the oldest housing typologies in the region.

Minimizing Environmental Impact

Located on a brownfield site with a scarred bluff from previous excavations to remove an old Chevron pipeline, the Edgeland House project prioritized environmental stewardship and sustainability. By minimizing disturbance to the site, the design aims to heal the land and restore the natural slope, fostering the return of wildlife to the area.

A Symphony of Architecture and Nature

The Edgeland House is characterized by its two green-roofed wings, which serve as a shelter for each other from the sun. This architectural feature not only provides thermal insulation and energy efficiency but also integrates seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, blurring the boundaries between built environment and nature.

A Testament to Innovation

In the Edgeland House, Bercy Chen Studio has created more than just a residence—it is a testament to innovation, sustainability, and a deep reverence for the land. By marrying contemporary design with ecological principles, the Edgeland House stands as a beacon of hope for the future of architecture, inspiring harmony between human habitation and the natural world.
