Crafting a “Campfire in the Snow”: The Concept of ARC’TERYX Store

The newly opened ARC’TERYX store at Beidahu Ski Resort marks a significant milestone as it coincided with the resort’s first snowfall of the season. Originating from Canada’s rugged landscapes, ARC’TERYX has long been synonymous with high-performance outdoor apparel and gear. Committed to precision in design and production, the brand has continually pushed the boundaries of outdoor exploration. The design of the new store, undertaken by STILL YOUNG, reflects the brand’s ethos, aiming to create a spiritual destination for snow enthusiasts.

Conceptualization: “A Campfire in the Snow”

Inspired by the imagery of adventurers gathering around a campfire amidst falling snow, the store’s design exudes warmth and comfort against the wintry backdrop. Warm-toned lighting and textures evoke the ambiance of a glowing campfire, setting the tone for a unique retail experience. The building’s facade, adorned with natural wood elements, stands out amidst the cool-toned surroundings, resembling a beacon of warmth and hospitality.

Blending Indoor and Outdoor Spaces

Central to the design is a circular veranda that seamlessly connects the indoor and outdoor environments. This transitional space not only shields customers from harsh weather but also offers panoramic views through expansive French windows. The veranda serves practical functions, such as drying snowboards and providing shelter from cold winds, while blurring the boundaries between the natural and built environments.

Artistic Interpretations of Nature

A focal point within the store is the striking “glacier” installation, crafted from acrylic to resemble the crystalline texture of ice. This art piece serves as a visual bridge between the interior space and the outdoor landscape, infusing the store with a sense of artistic elegance. Movable cabinets and flexible spatial arrangements allow for dynamic scene changes, ensuring a versatile and engaging retail experience.

Enhancing Customer Experience

The interior space is characterized by warm tones, neat lines, and contrasting materials, creating an inviting atmosphere for snow sports enthusiasts. The three-dimensional folding ceiling structures and fabric curtains evoke the sensation of resting in a tent outdoors, enhancing the overall sense of comfort and relaxation. Practical considerations, such as movable cabinets and home-like amenities, further elevate the customer experience.

A Sanctuary for Outdoor Enthusiasts

From the rental and storage zone to the mountain skills training area, every aspect of the store is thoughtfully designed to cater to the needs of outdoor enthusiasts. Elements inspired by nature, such as rocks, cable cars, and tents, blend seamlessly with the brand’s identity, fostering a sense of connection to the wilderness. Ultimately, the design of the ARC’TERYX store transcends traditional retail spaces, offering a transformative journey for every explorer who crosses its threshold.
