Restoring History: Manna Hotel’s Transformation in Arcadia, Greece

Originally established in the late 1920s as the Manna Sanatorium, this historic site in Arcadia, Greece, once welcomed patients seeking healing amidst the tranquil woods. Designed by Swiss architects, the sanatorium deviated from the prevailing neoclassical style of the region. However, with the advent of penicillin in 1938, the era of sanatoriums came to an end, leaving Manna abandoned and vulnerable to deterioration.

Revitalizing Heritage

In 2023, K-Studio embarked on a journey to revive the essence of Manna, reimagining it as a contemporary sanctuary while preserving its rich history. Situated amidst unspoiled natural surroundings, the property’s secluded location and iconic architecture served as inspiration for a modern interpretation of hospitality, wellness, and retreat.

Bridging the Gap: Past and Present

The restoration of Manna Hotel required a delicate balance between honoring its origins and embracing contemporary design principles. Through meticulous interventions, the architects sought to highlight the building’s monumental heritage while infusing it with a fresh, modern aesthetic. This approach aimed to maintain the original identity of the structure while breathing new life into its walls.

Immersive Hospitality Experience

Upon arrival, guests are enveloped in a warm embrace of hospitality, greeted by a cozy welcome area complete with local treats and a crackling fireplace. The Lounge area, dominated by a Bar reminiscent of the property’s healing past, fosters a sense of community, inviting guests to engage in shared activities. An open Kitchen encourages participation in meal preparation, blurring the lines between culinary experience and social interaction.

Harmonizing Tradition and Innovation

Each of the 32 rooms within Manna Hotel features a harmonious blend of heritage elements and contemporary design. Timber grids, reflective of the building’s original architecture, define distinct areas within the rooms, complemented by terrazzo and marble floor patterns. The reinvented material palette emphasizes natural finishes sourced locally, ensuring a seamless transition between old and new.

A Timeless Sanctuary

Manna Hotel aspires to be more than just accommodation; it aims to be a sanctuary where guests can reconnect with themselves and their surroundings. Grand communal spaces and secluded areas coexist, offering opportunities for both community engagement and introspection. With a focus on F&B and spa experiences, Manna Hotel seeks to elevate everyday routines into rituals, complemented by the surrounding Arcadian landscape, which beckons guests to explore and unwind.

In redefining Manna Hotel, K-Studio has not only preserved a piece of history but has also created a timeless retreat where the past and present converge, inviting guests to embark on a journey of discovery and rejuvenation.
